Frequently asked questions about welding equipment testing
How often must welding equipment be inspected?
According to DGUV Regulation 3, welding equipment as electrical equipment must undergo a safety inspection at least once a year. In addition, an inspection must be carried out before initial commissioning and after every repair or significant modification. The exact inspection cycle can be individually adjusted on the basis of a risk assessment.
What is the difference between DGUV V3 and DIN EN 60974-4?
DGUV Regulation 3 is the overarching set of rules that stipulates the obligation to test electrical equipment. DIN EN 60974-4 (VDE 0544-4) is the specific testing standard for arc welding equipment. Since welding equipment has special hazard characteristics—especially due to secondary currents—it is subject to stricter testing requirements than ordinary electrical equipment according to DIN VDE 0701-0702.
How much does it cost to inspect welding equipment?
The inspection costs depend on the number of devices, the scope of the inspection, and the location where it is carried out. Blumenbecker will provide you with a customized quote based on your individual requirements. For larger equipment fleets, we recommend a maintenance contract with fixed inspection dates.
Who is authorized to inspect welding equipment in accordance with DGUV V3?
The inspection must be carried out by a qualified person as defined in TRBS 1203 – that is, a qualified electrician with proven knowledge of the relevant standards and inspection procedures. Blumenbecker service technicians meet these requirements and carry out inspections in accordance with the standards.
Can welding equipment from all manufacturers be tested?
Yes. Blumenbecker tests, maintains, and repairs welding equipment and arc welding systems from all manufacturers—regardless of the manufacturer. As a partner to leading brands, we also carry out warranty repairs for equipment from authorized manufacturers.
