Frequently asked questions about fire protection systems
How often must fire protection systems be inspected?
The law requires fire protection systems to be inspected at least once a year. In cases of higher usage, such as during multi-shift operations, more frequent inspections are required—typically every six months. The specific requirements are set forth in ASR A 1.7 and the DIBt guidelines for fire-rated gates and doors.
Who is authorized to inspect fire-rated gates and doors?
Inspections of fire-rated barriers may only be performed by qualified personnel with appropriate certification. Our service technicians are specially trained and conduct inspections in accordance with applicable regulations.
What happens if maintenance is not performed?
Without proper maintenance and documentation, you, as the operator, risk losing your insurance coverage. In the event of damage, this can result in significant financial losses. In addition, violations of building code requirements can lead to criminal penalties.
Do you also inspect systems from other manufacturers?
Yes, we are manufacturer-independent. We inspect, maintain, and repair fire protection systems from a wide variety of manufacturers—regardless of whether we supplied them or not.
What is a smoke and heat exhaust system, and why does it need to be maintained?
A smoke and heat exhaust ventilation system ensures that smoke and heat are quickly vented to the outside in the event of a fire. This allows people to breathe and locate escape routes, and makes it easier for firefighters to fight the fire. Maintenance in accordance with DGUV 205-001 and DIN EN 12101 ensures that the heat exhaust ventilation system functions reliably in an emergency.
How long can a fire door withstand fire?
The fire resistance rating of a fire door is determined by its classification according to DIN 4102. The number indicates the minimum duration in minutes that the component can withstand a fire:
- T30 (fire-retardant): at least 30 minutes
- T60: at least 60 minutes
- T90 (fire-resistant): at least 90 minutes
- T120: at least 120 minutes
The required fire resistance class depends on the location and building code requirements. In escape routes and stairwells, T30 doors are generally required. Important: These values apply only if the fire door is properly maintained and closes properly.
