For Generations – Since Generations Elena & Vladimir
Elena visited the Blumenbecker site in Beckum for the first time when she was 16. It was a busy day. She remembers there being a bouncy castle. Her father Vladimir took her to the open day celebrating the company's 90th anniversary. “It made me feel good,” she says.
Today, 13 years later, both daughter and father work at Blumenbecker. Their jobs are very different. Elena completed her internship at Blumenbecker and then started as a working student.
She has been a permanent member of the materials management team since October 2024. She works at a desk and on a computer.
The materials she procures are used by her father, among others. He has been with Blumenbecker since 2008. As an industrial electrician, he works on construction sites around the world. “Wherever I can get by with the language,” he reports. In China, he was lucky that his contact spoke German.
And what is it like working in the same company? Here is the father-daughter interview:
Why did you choose Blumenbecker as your employer?
Vladimir: At first, I was just looking for a job where I could earn more money than in my old job. I enjoy working here. I get to travel a lot and work independently.
Elena: I was looking for an internship for university and simply applied. When I got accepted, I started—also quite pragmatically. I stayed because I like it here. I have a good team at my side. The work is fun. And I am free to make decisions. I like that.
What is it like when your daughter works at the same company?
Vladimir: Completely normal. We don't work directly together. I only got a few calls when she first joined us. And when Elena started here, she was often asked: Are you Vladimir's daughter?
At home, we don't talk about work or Blumenbecker very often. But every now and then I call her at work and ask where my materials for the construction site are. Sometimes that's easier and faster than going through the usual channels (laughs).
What are the biggest differences in your personalities, and what do you have in common?
Elena: My father gets up at 5 a.m. I'm happy if I can get out of bed at 7 a.m. We both have strong personalities, but he's sometimes better at hiding it. We're definitely similar in that we both want to do our jobs well.
