Overhaul and repair of more than 60 engines, gearboxes, pumps, and wire welding machines

Our client:
Diedrich Hesse GmbH & Co. KG

The company was founded in 1906 as a forge where wire drawing machines were repaired. The family-owned company uses modern hydrogen annealing to draw cold heading wires for all applications in forming technology.

Today, Hesse employs 50 people and specializes in galvanized wires, galvanized drawn wires, straightened rods, and bright wires.

The challenge: Production downtime due to once-in-a-century flooding

On July 14, 2021, once-in-a-century flooding reached the Sauerland region. Massive amounts of water made their way across roads and into buildings. Within just ten minutes, Plant II of Diedrich Hesse GmbH & Co. KG was completely flooded to a height of 1.50 m. The damage amounted to several million euros.

The plan was to dismantle, overhaul, and reassemble the most important drives first. This ensured that Hesse could resume part of its production and serve at least some of its customers.

Our solution: Systematic repair of over 60 drives

Based on a recommendation that Blumenbecker is a specialist in vacuum drying, Hesse contacted the armature winding shop in Beckum by telephone. On the same day, they visited the site together with the customer to assess the situation in person. Production had already been interrupted at this point due to the feed transformers being shut down, and the plant was without power because it could not be ruled out that water had entered one of the transformers.

Overhauling the transformer would have taken too long. So it was decided to organize a completely overhauled replacement transformer on the used market. This was delivered and replaced immediately after testing, so that parts of the operation could be reconnected promptly by the local electrical company.

One drive after another – including motors, gearboxes, pumps, and wire welding machines – was systematically overhauled.

The advantages

  • Close cooperation between sales, workshop management, work preparation, purchasing, and assembly staff enables rapid assistance
  • Flexible and professional work in close coordination with customer requirements
  • Specialist in vacuum drying
  • By the end of September, around 90% of all machines at Hesse will be up and running again
