Founded in 2015 and based in Warendorf in Westphalia, the company designs and builds turn-key plants, machines and systems. Its focuses lie in extraction, evaporation and drying technology for the pharmaceutical, food, cosmetic and chemical industries. In the field of extraction systems, DEVEX has broad experience in design, production, installation and equipment for obtaining essential oils, oleo-resins, aromas, natural extracts and proteins. The company has been part of the Amandus Kahl Group since 2016.
The commission
Blumenbecker can look back on decades of experience in the chemical and explosion hazard field. This was particularly decisive for the first order for DEVEX.
DEVEX contracted Blumenbecker with the planning and production of a switchgear system including software and commissioning for a wood extraction system. The scope of delivery included a switch cabinet and associated control console which had to be approved for the explosion hazard field. The wood extraction system is used at the Bern University of Applied Sciences in Switzerland for test purposes.
Project scope
The wood extraction system itself is placed in the explosion hazard area and features actuators and sensors with different explosion protection categories. Blumenbecker had to bring them together in a central switch cabinet. The plant is operated using a touch screen. The control panel was approved for the explosion hazard area thanks to its design.
For the first time, the new Blumenbecker app EIP.mobile was used in switchgear construction, with field devices also defined with a QR code. The use of EIP.mobile was only originally intended for the Blumenbecker switch cabinet, but was extended to cover the entire system at the customer’s request. The system components were therefore marked with QR codes.

DEVEX received all automation solutions for this project from a single source – including engineering, switchgear construction, visualisation and commissioning.
Blumenbecker carries out production and tests according to standards UL 508A and UL 698A for the explosion hazard area and has decades of experience in the explosion hazard and chemical sector.
