Voith Group
The Voith Group is a global technology group. With its broad portfolio of plants, products, services, and digital applications, Voith sets standards in the energy, oil & gas, paper, raw materials, and transport & automotive markets. Founded in 1867, Voith is now one of Europe's largest family-owned companies, with more than 20,000 employees, sales of €4.2 billion and locations in over 60 countries around the world. The company is headquartered in Heidenheim an der Brenz. Garching is home to a production site for the Turbo division. Here, various types of drive and brake systems for buses and trucks are manufactured. Voith Turbo is the global market leader in hydrodynamic transmissions.
The task
Lockers for 468 users were needed to modernize the two changing rooms at the Garching site. Blumenbecker Industriebedarf GmbH's Munich branch was commissioned to procure them.
The service
A concept was developed that provided for connecting the cabinets to the central ventilation system, which was already in place. The ventilation balance of the exhaust air system remains unchanged. Disc valves in the cabinet roof and a sloping roof above, which also functions as a collective exhaust air duct, ensure an even exhaust air flow in all compartments. Blumenbecker, together with its partner C+P Möbelsysteme, took on the entire planning process, including clarification of all interfaces, such as coordination with the ventilation engineer for the exhaust air system.
Each cabinet consists of two or three compartments. One compartment is 400 mm wide and has a flexible partition wall for dividing it into black clothing (work clothes) and white clothing (private clothing). There are a total of 468 compartments distributed across 156 lockers – these were manufactured in two special colors at the customer's request. Delivery and installation took place in two construction phases in fall 2020.
The advantages
The customer received high-quality, functional wardrobe cabinets. The cabinets offer a black-and-white separation—i.e., a division between work and private clothing using a flexible partition.
The existing ventilation system was used in the implementation. Odors and moisture are removed directly by the negative pressure in the locker. All clothing and shoes can be stored in the locker, which means that the changing rooms are easier to clean. To make cleaning the rooms easier, the lockers were delivered with built-in benches. The seat protrudes without additional feet. A HPL (high pressure laminate) facing is attached below the lockers and sealed to the floor with a soft PVC skirting board. This creates defined wipe edges and eliminates the need for cleaning underneath the lockers.
Customer quote
“We wanted a sustainable system that would last for many years. Blumenbecker provided us with valuable suggestions that we hadn't even thought of in the first step.”
