Our client:
DHL Hub Leipzig GmbH
DHL Hub Leipzig GmbH, based in Schkeuditz, operates one of six global aviation hubs for the logistics company DHL at Leipzig/Halle Airport. The hub at Leipzig/Halle Airport has been in operation since early 2008. Around 2,000 tons of freight can be handled per day. Up to 52 aircraft can be loaded and unloaded simultaneously on the apron. DHL has invested a total of €300 million in the construction of the hub. The total usable area for buildings and aircraft is approximately 200 hectares. The distribution center houses Germany's largest sorting facility, with a conveyor belt length of 6.5 kilometers.
The task
The dollies supplied by another company developed technical problems after only a short time. Blumenbecker Technik GmbH was commissioned to modernize the existing dollies and supply new ones.
The service
Since axles are the key components in dollies, Blumenbecker Technik decided to design its own axle and have it manufactured in-house to withstand even the toughest conditions. For servicing purposes, a fully equipped workshop was opened on the DHL premises at Leipzig Airport in June 2011. Since then, two employees have been working daily to ensure smooth servicing of the dollies supplied by Blumenbecker Technik and those supplied by other companies. Thanks to the flexibility of Blumenbecker Technik, additional maintenance technicians are brought in during peak periods.
