Robotic assembly Automated screwdriving, component assembly and joining

Automation of assembly processes in manufacturing

Modern industrial robots are capable of much more today than just material handling or welding. They are increasingly taking over assembly operations that were previously performed manually. Robotic assembly is an ideal solution for series production, where high productivity, repeatability, quality and the minimization of human errors are essential.

Thanks to precise positioning systems, vision technologies and intelligent screwdriving or dispensing units, a wide range of assembly processes can be automated, from simple component assembly to the complex assembly of products consisting of multiple components.

How does robotic assembly work?

A robotic workstation takes individual components from feeders, storage systems, pallets or conveyors and performs the required assembly operations according to a defined production process. The solution may also include quality inspection systems, production data monitoring and automatic component identification. Today, robots commonly perform product assembly, screwdriving, pressing, snap-fit assembly, component insertion, bonding, riveting and final product assembly.

The result is a stable production process with consistent product quality, high productivity and the possibility of continuous operation.

Typical sssembly operations suitable for automation

Screwdriving and fastener tightening
The robot automatically picks up screws, positions them at the required location and tightens them to the specified torque. The system can also include tightening verification, process data archiving and traceability of each manufactured part.

Assembly and product integration
Robotic assembly makes it possible to automatically join individual components into subassemblies and final products. This includes, for example, the assembly of plastic, metal or combined components, placing components into assemblies, fitting functional elements or assembling products prior to the subsequent production operation.

Component placement and precise part insertion
Industrial robots can precisely place bearings, seals, springs, connectors, cable harnesses or other components. Combined with vision systems, they can also handle small, sensitive or geometrically complex parts.

Press-fitting, snap-fit and mechanical joining
Automation of assembly operations ranging from simple assembly of plastic components to precise press-fitting or mechanical joining of metal components. Robots can perform assembly using mechanical joints, flexible snap-fits or press-fitting of components.

Bonding and material dispensing
Automatic application of adhesives and sealants with high precision and consistent application quality. The robot ensures the required amount of material and precise dispensing trajectories.

Assembly of electronic components
Automated placement of electronic components, connectors and cable harnesses or assembly of electrical subassemblies. Robotic workstations provide high handling precision and help prevent damage to sensitive components.

Why invest in robotic assembly?

Robots can reliably perform repetitive assembly operations with high precision, continuously and without fatigue. This leads to shorter production times, reduced scrap rates and better utilization of production capacity.

Automation also helps address the shortage of workers and improves workplace ergonomics by taking over monotonous or physically demanding tasks. Modern robotic workstations enable quick changeover between production programs, making it possible to efficiently manufacture multiple product variants on a single line without complex changeovers. In addition, the robot can be easily adapted to new products, changes in component design or modifications to the production process, significantly increasing production flexibility. The workstation can also include quality inspection directly during production. The result is lower production costs, higher efficiency and a stable production process.
